After the wood squares are doweled, they are inspected and graded into several categories based on color, grain straightness, mineral streaks, blemishes and structural defects.

Dowels being inspected.

The dowels are sorted and oriented to be sure that the very best grain pattern of each dowel becomes the tip of the stick - ensuring that the strength is where you need it most!
Removing dowels due to grain straightness.

The edges of the dowels are then cut into lengths.
