Warsaw Community High School & Goshen High School Perform Together for "The Big Bang Theory"

The Warsaw Community High School Percussion Ensemble performed with the middle and high school jazz bands as part of the Warsaw Music Department’s final concert of the year, The Big Bang Theory, in Warsaw, IN on Thursday, May 24th.  The concert included special guests, the Goshen High School Crimson Percussion Ensemble from nearby Goshen, IN.

Under the direction of Mickey Ratliff, the Warsaw percussion ensemble performed a STOMP-inspired basketball skit, the first movement of Gainsborough by Tom Gauger, and Why Not? by Michel Camillo and arranged by Chris Brooks.  Warsaw also performed their competitive program Beyond the Mirage, based on the music of Chick Corea and Al Di Meola and arranged by Ratliff.

Under the direction of Chris Smith, the Goshen High School Crimson Percussion Ensemble performed Trap by “A League of Gentlemen”, arranged by Smith, and their competitive program, Porgy and Bass, an original composition by Smith based on variations of the famous xylophone solo from Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess Overture” and original material.  To close the concert, the two ensembles combined to perform “Senegal Calling”, an Afro-Cuban tune originally recorded by the fusion band Steps Ahead.

Goshen High School is the 2007 Indiana Percussion Association State Champion in PSCW and 2007 WGI Bronze Medalist.  Warsaw Community High School is the 2007 Indiana Percussion Association Silver Medalist in PSCW.  The ensembles began performing together after the directors became friends a few years ago.  Since then, it has become an event that both programs’ students, parents, and communities look forward to each year.
