Drumset educator and Vic Firth Education team member David Mendoza conducted the "First Audition" 2007 Music Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 13th at the Oak Hill Drum Studio located in Austin TX. The workshop offers beginning to intermediate level drumset students the opportunity to play popular Rock, Pop, and Blues music along with Austin pro musicians in an actual audition setting. For many of the participants, this is the first time they have ever played with other musicians.

The workshop covers topics such as learning song arrangements, experiencing the drummer's role in a band, establishing the tempo, playing steady, starting and stopping songs, watching for cues, performing well, and “passing” the audition. Participants play and interact with Austin session players, who in turn offer valuable tips and advice. Participants get to watch each other audition and learn from each other as well.
