Corps Style Concepts - The Experience 2008

On Saturday April 5, Corps Style Concepts (CSC) organized a unique event named The Experience 2008 in Joure, The Netherlands. The event consisted of 4 workshops during the morning and 1 master class and an after-party in the afternoon.
100 participants gathered at the location to take part in one of the following workshops

  • Brass on the field
  • Drums on the Field
  • From idea to execution (Program/Show coordination)
  • Arranging for band directors (how to make arrangements more effective)

The workshops were meant for members of marching bands, drum corps, percussion units, instructors and/band directors.  All participants went through an intensive but fun program. For the drummers it was fun to be able to try out all kinds of Vic Firth sticks and mallets.
The master class was truly unique. A wind band, a Corps style marching band and a Big Band played music from ABBA to let the audience hear the differences in arranging for their typical style and audience but also the things they have in common. The grand finale had the three units play together an arrangement of Thank you for the Music which received a standing ovation from the audience. This arrangement by Rob Balfoort, who led the master class, was a great finale. The day was concluded with a party at which numerous board representatives of bands, drum corps and musical organizations all came together.
