On October 6th, 2007, Chigago area percussionists gathered to participate in a very special event. Composer Eric Roth hosted a site-specfic performance at the Clark Street Bridge.
“Playing the bridge’s steel structures using wooden drumsticks, rubber-headed mallets and rubber-tipped gong
batons, the Clark Street Bridge will be transformed into a musical instrument by dozens of musicians. This event has never
been done before, and will change the character of the city,
even if only for an hour. The performance will consist of an
original work in suite form, composed by Eric Roth and
played by drumming the bridge’s steel structure.”
The event was presented as part of Chicago Artists Month by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs Public Art Program with support from the Chicago Department of Transportation, the Chicago
Park District, and the Vic Firth Company.
