VIC FIRTH PRESENTS:
THE UMASS MARIMBA BAND
Thom Hannum, Director

Vic Firth is pleased to showcase the University of Massachuettes Amherst Marimba Band in concert, under the direction of Thom Hannum - with assistance from Damon Grant.

The UMASS Marimba Band was formed in 2005 to provide the opportunity for students to gain experience in arranging techniques, as well as performance opportunities of popular music transcriptions.

It is our hope that these selected tunes will not only make for enjoyable entertainment, but also that younger percussion students might be able to see how much fun making music on the keyboard percussion instruments can be!

Mallet Selection:

M32 - Terry Gibbs Signature Vibe Mallet
Cord wound head, produces medium articulation throughout the full range of the vibraphone.
M31 - Terry Gibbs Signature Vibe Mallet
A medium soft mallet for more fullness.
M154 - Ensemble Series Marimba/Xylo Mallet
A fine choice for the top third register of the instrument (full range on xylophone). Thin latex wrap takes the "edge" off the articulation.
M153 - Ensemble Series Marimba/Xylo Mallet
Medium. Great for the middle register. A very versatile mallet.
M114 - Robert Van Sice Signature Marimba Mallet
Medium. The most popular model in the series, this mallet covers the entire range of the marimba and produces a singing sound that is full of life.
M113 - Robert Van Sice Signature Marimba Mallet
Medium soft. A general mallet that covers the lower four octaves of the marimba.
