Biography Experience: After receiving his initial instruction on drum set at the age of 9, Patrick performed as a percussionist with various folk groups as well as a pit percussionist for the theater. At the age of 14, he joined a small 60 member Drum and Bugle Corps and performed on multi-tenor for one year before moving to snare drum for an additional 3 years. He then joined the 19-time national Champion and 9-time World Champion Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. There he played snare for four years, the final three as Center Snare/Drum Sergeant before “aging-out” and becoming a member of the Cadet’s percussion staff. He served on the Cadets’ percussion staff for four years working first with George Hopkins and then Thom Hannum, both DCI (Drum Corps International) Hall of Fame Members. His work culminated in 1984 with the Cadets winning back-to-back DCI World Championships and receiving perfect scores in Percussion Ensemble and General Effect. Patrick then took a hiatus from percussion studies and teaching to focus on starting a family and pursuing his architectural career. He returned to drumset studies under Kim Plainfield at NYC’s prestigious Drummers Collective where he also participated in a Masterclass with the amazing Peter Erskine. Patrick is currently the Director of Marching Percussion for the University of Virginia Cavalier Marching Band working under Director and former student, Bill Pease.
