Brian Merryman, has been a percussionist for 21 years. He was born in Westminster, MD where he attended South Carroll High School. While at South Carroll, he became very involved in the fine arts and participated in most every music ensemble the school had to offer, to include wind ensemble and orchestra, jazz band, and marching band. He was the recipient of numerous excellent ratings at county and Maryland State Solo and Ensemble festivals as well as an active participant in the All County Band Programs. He was also fortunate to win high percussion at Atlantic Coast Championships with his other comrades. After graduating high school he went on to pursue and receive a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice. During his tenure at University of Maryland he was a snare drummer for the Mighty Sound of Maryland Marching Band. He participated in numerous College Bowl games and the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Parade. At this point, he became increasingly involved in writing marching battery scores along with teaching numerous award winning marching band percussion sections around Maryland.
After college, he went on to pursue a career in law enforcement, but never stopped teaching and striving to better music education. He was fortunate enough to be an instructor for Innovation Indoor out of Richmond, VA. In 2008, he formed a non-profit music organization called Final Measure, INC (www.finalmeasure.org). Since it’s inception he has been vigorously planning for the group and intends on competing as an Independent WGI Indoor Percussion Section, the only of its kind in Maryland.
