Tom is a 28 year old professional drummer and tutor from Norwich, England. He has been playing drums since the age of 10 and teaching since the age of 21. His tuition studio is based at Anglia Drum Centre in Norwich, the largest specialist drum and percussion retailer in the Norfolk and Suffolk area. From here, he teaches around forty private students, as well as taking time to teach in local schools. Tom teaches beginner to advanced players, and likes to use Groove Essentials as a base from which to explore ideas, as well as putting most students through the Rock school Syllabus, for which his students have gained a 100% pass rate. Tom is also working on his first book, “Rudiments Applied”, a study of using snare drum rudiments to play grooves and fills. Many of his students go on to higher education, with past students attending Drumtech, Guilford Academy of Contemporary Music and Access to Music Colleges. Some of his students are beginning to start their own careers, such as Josh Thaxton-Key of the new British band Ivyrise. As a player, Tom counts funk, reggae, world and jazz as my preferred styles. As well as playing drums in various local projects, Tom currently plays drums for Zimbabwean singer Anna Mudeka, with festival appearances throughout the summer and a new record due out in the autumn. Tom is pleased to be associated with Vic Firth and their dedication to percussion education and excellence.
