Eric Nix is a respected band instructor at Grantsville High School (GHS) in Grantsville, Utah. As such , he is responsible for the high school band, drum line and color guard in competition band as well as in jazz band. He is a perfectionist and gets the most out of his students because of his passion for his job, enthusiasm for music and because he really cares about his students.
Eric graduated from Lander University with a BA in Music Education, grades K-12. He is currently working on his Master’s Degree at Brigham Young University in Music Education. Eric has studied under Dr. Jon Falskow , Dr. Chris Lee, Dr. Paul Criswell, Dr. Robert Gardiner, Edward Nagel and Matthew Jones.
As the band instructor at GHS, Eric has directed students in winning 1st place in Circuit for 2011, 2nd place in 2011 state finals, and outstanding awards in visual, general effect and cymbal line. As well, GHS has won the Fan Favorite Award. GHS has also won the following awards from the Utah Music Education Association from 2006-2010: four 1st place awards, eight 2nd place awards, twelve 3rd place awards and numerous outstanding awards in visual, music and percussion.
From 2000-2006, prior to coming to GHS, Eric performed with the Lander University Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and with the Lander University Winter Percussion. He has instructed drum lines at Laurens District 55 High School from 2002-2006 and Emerald High School from 2000-2002. Since coming to GHS he has instructed Tooele High School’s drum line and Grantsville High School’s drum line.
Eric has given clinics to Traveler’s Rest High School in 2002 and 2006, Riverside High School in 2002 and 2003, Tooele High School in 2009, Weber High School in 2011, Stansbury High School 2009-2011, and Stansbury Winter Persussion Ensemble in 2011.
As far as professional organizations, Eric has been, or is affiliated with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity from 2003-2006, CIPA (Caroline Indoor Performance Association) from 2000-2006, MENC (Music Education National Conference) from 2000-present, PAS (Percussive Arts Society) from 2007-2011, and UWDA (Utah Winter Drumline Association) in 2006 and 2010-2011.
Eric has also arranged music, composed music and taught private drum lessons from 2000-present, but probably his proudest accomplishment is that he has a beautiful wife and is the father to a lovely three-month-old baby girl. Eric is well-loved by his students and well-respected by his colleagues and the community.
