Adam Hopper, a native of Monticello, KY, currently serves as the Director of Bands at Southern Middle School, and as Percussion Instructor at Southwestern High School in Somerset, Kentucky. He received a Bachelor of Music Education from Campbellsville University in 2007 and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Percussion performance from C.U. under the direction of Chad Floyd. He toured internationally with the Campbellsville University Jazz Band and also toured and performed in the United States with the Campbellsville Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. During this time he also recorded and performed with several regional musical acts such as The Rachel Hurt Band, The Nuno Norberto Jazz Ensemble, The Tom Taksa Jazz Orchestra and Saulo DeAlmeida. Mr. Hopper has written for and taught at various high schools in Kentucky and Ohio. In 2006 he performed in the W.G.I. open finalist group East 80 Percussion. In 2007, he was a charter member of another W.G.I indoor ensemble, Speed Percussion. He came back on staff at Speed as co-director of the front ensemble for the 2008 season, and in 2009 he accepted the teaching positions at Southern Middle School and Southwestern High School. Since then, these programs have added several new opportunities for students. Such opportunities include Southern Middle School Jazz Band, Percussion Ensembles at both schools, and the only Brazilian Percussion Ensemble in the state of Kentucky. Mr. Hopper continues to perform for various ensembles in the Southeast, as well as teach students privately in southern Kentucky. He is an active member of the Kentucky Music Educator Association and has served as an adjudicator at several KMEA events. He now resides in Somerset, Kentucky with his wife Sarah and their cat Bossa.
