Thunderously good drumming

Jazz legend Dom Famularo presents two fantastic Hungarian musicians; percussionist Kornel Horvath and master sticksman Gabor Dornyei. This DVD is split into seven performances pieces, six of these exclusively Kornel and Gabor demonstrating their expert ability on a whole manner of strange instruments.

World percussion is the over-riding theme throughout as each piece is dedicated to and based on the music of a particular country. So we jump from India to Latin America all the way to Bulgaria via Africa in this musical exploration of sound.

Kornel Horvath weaves his complex, exotic rhythms around the ever-shifting, masterful drumming of Dornyei as he plays everything from a Swiss hang drum to, at one point, just cymbals, slapping a china in his lap. Gabor Dornyei’s funky fusion of grooves and chops lead or sometimes over-lay the percussive elements, causing a cacophony of exciting sound and rhythm. The highlight here is the master of ceremonies himself. Dom Famularo dominates the last performance with thunderous soloing agility, at one point playing one-handed whilst heralding the duo with the other. This really is a must-watch for anyone who loves to watch drummers and percussionists displaying mastery of their art.
