Vic Firth recently sat down with several professional Nashville-area drummers to pick their brains on how to make it in the music industry. Dan Needham is regarded as one of the most in-demand session drummers in the industry. In the last 15 years, he as been recorded on literally hundreds of projects ranging from Kenny Loggins to Garth Brooks. He has played on 16 Gold and Platinum albums as well as several Grammy award-winning and many Dove award-winning projects. A few of the artists that Dan has recorded and/or toured with include Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Kenny Loggins, The Neville Brothers, Michael McDonald, Garth Brooks, Peter Cetera, and many others.

Dan has also appeared on nationally broadcasted shows including Late Night, Jay Leno, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The View, CMT Artist of the Year and The Gospel Music Association Dove Awards. Dan is also a busy producer and songwriter.

Tommy Harden is a session drummer, producer and songwriter from Nashville and is currently touring with country artist Reba McEntire. In addition to being the father of 6 rambunctious children, Tommy is a songwriter with Starstruck/Tempotommy publishing.

Paul Simmons has been playing, performing, writing, and recording drums professionally since 1980. Kevin Rapillo earned a Bachelor’s of Music degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, and in the process formed Kid Crash, pursuing the rock and roll dream at night while going to school during the day.
After college, Kevin moved to Nashville where he played for every singer/songwriter he could, touring and recording. Those experiences led him to a chance meeting with a then unknown, country superstar, Rodney Atkins just before his debut album was to be released. Eight years, 5 number one singles and multi-platinum album sales later; Kevin is still in the drum chair and bandleader.

Lejoe Young has been playing drums for over 35 years in all grooves and styles. Lejoe cut his teeth in Oklahoma until 1995 before moving to Nashville, working with studio players and performing live. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Knoxville, playing on the hit show “Country Tonite” in Pigeon Forge. For 13 years, 450 shows a year, Lejoe never missed a show.
