Mark Wessels' Rudimental Technique
     Exercise #11: Flam Prep

Use this exercise to isolate the grace note height on flams. First, with single hand flams (meas. 1&2), then with hand-to-hand flams (meas. 3). Play each accent stroke at 12 inches, controlling the rebound while keeping the grace notes on the opposite hand soft and relaxed (at 1-2 inches). Listen for the consistency in each grace note placement! You should hear consistent “flams” – NOT “fa-lams” or “pops”!
