Mark Wessels' Rudimental Technique
     Exercise #8: 1&1/2&2 Rolls

As you build your double strokes into actual “open rolls”, the fundamental work that you’ve done on the previous exercises will begin to pay off! Keep the same concepts in mind while you work on this exercise: Utilize the wrists and fingers to increase the quality of sound on each diddle, and listen to the consistency of sound on every stroke throughout.

Even at a fast tempo, you should be able to feel your fingers making contact with the stick during the rolls! Remember to work with a metronome to ensure consistency of tempo from the “check pattern” to the rolls.
