Kristina Kanders is a professional drummer and singer/songwriter from Cologne, Germany. She has performed with many bands and musicians in New York in funk, soul, rock, jazz, pop and Brazilian music projects, as well as studio and TV recordings. Born in 1962, daughter of world renowned classical singer Agnes Giebel, Kristina sang and played piano from age 4. In 1987 she went to New York City to study jazz (Masters Degree, Queens College) and lived there for eighteen years. Kristina has appeared in numerous concerts there and internationally with Cyro Baptista’s Beat the Donkey, Emiliana Torrini, John Zorn, Marc Ribot, David Brosa, Cibo Mato, Dr.Karaikudi S. Subramanian, Beatriz Azevedo, David Liebman, Kenwood Dennard, Pizzicato Five, Kit McClure Big Band and her own percussion group Sambanditos, TV commercials for the producers of STOMP, among others.

Kristina’s muscial travels have included tours through through the USA, Holland and Portugal, as well as study trips to South India and Brazil. She was a faculty member at the Jazz & Contemporary Music Program of New School University in New York from 1994 to 2005 teaching drums, percussion and ear training. At present Kristina concentrates primarily on producing her own music. Her solo debut album “For All People” was released in the fall of 2008, followed by solo and duo concerts with Bernd Gast on keyboards and laptop. She plays drums for the Adam Noidlt Missiles Orchestra and others and teaches drums privately. Kristina endorses Vic Firth drums sticks.
