"The Yuletide Marimbist" was created to fill a void in Christmas literature for 4-mallet solo marimba. I can recall numerous times of being called to play marimba for church services during the holiday season and not having anything to play, so I would just read out of hymnals or piano books I had. While I was able to get by with these other arrangements, they never did lay in the hands very well or even sound great great on the marimba.
Spanning a wide range of styles, the arrangements in this collection are suitable for diverse performance venues, such as churches, bookstores, retirement homes, cafes, civic centers, libraries, etc. All you need is your imagination and a simple phone call to the minister of music, store owner, activities coordinator, or program director. Only a 4 1/3-octave (low A) marimba is necessary, which most high schools and colleges own now and are typically willing to loan out to students over holiday breaks. However, if you have access to a 5-octave marimba, cue notes are provided throughout the book to utilize the extended range of the instrument.
The arrangements in the collection are flexible in that they may be repeated one or more times by utilizing repeats or D.S./D.C. indications. Have fun and spread the holiday cheer!
