Growing up in sunny southern California, Matt Cameron got started on the drums at the age of 13. In the early 1980's, Matt moved north to Seattle Washington to pursue his musical career. A skilled and versatile drummer, Matt cemented his place in the Seattle music scene playing with bands such as Feedback and Skin Yard.

In September of 1986, Matt was asked to join the band Soundgarden. Considered by many to be one of the most influential bands of the grunge music era, Soundgarden released five albums with Matt between 1986 and 1997.

After the breakup of Soundgarden in 1997, Matt spent a year working with the Smashing Pumpkins in the absence of drummer Jimmy Chamberlain. He contributed to seven tracks on the Pumpkins 1998 release, Adore, but "For Martha" was the only track that would appear on the album.

In the summer of 1998, Matt was approached by fellow Seattle rockers, Pearl Jam, and asked to tour with them in support of their release, Yield. Before long, Matt was welcomed into the band as a full time member. He appears on the albums Binaural, Riot Act, Pearl Jam and the band's latest release, Backspacer.
