When I was about 6/7, my parents tried getting me into playing football like most other boys at that age. Unfortunately I got picked on ALOT and I remember on one occasion I was pushed backwards over the kit bag of the opposition's coach by my own 'team mates'. After such instances became a regular happening, I refused to take part in football training or any football-related activities for the next 2 or 3 years, which included playing football with all the other kids on my street as that was the only thing they ever did and so I found comfort in staying inside and playing video games religiously.
However, my step-dad had a love for Mod culture and music alike. As a result of some of his mates sharing the same passion he had, when he was younger they formed a band with my step-dad on drums. I saw how cool my step-dad looked on a VCR of him and his band performing outside a local pub on a midsomer evening; with him wearing blacked out sunglasses hitting the drums in such a dramatic way that added pure class to what was quite frankly a drab performance. From that moment on I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Drumming has given me the confidence and discipline I never had in my younger years and has ultimately given me something to aim for. Infact, I am currently studying at college studying on a full-time music performance course, alongside playing drums with my band 'Everythings Better In Vegas' outside of college and I couldn't think of a better way to be preparing myself for a later life that will hopefully be full of drums and music... :)
